China legal aid
  Since The Regulation on Legal Aid has been adopted at the 15th executive meeting of the State Council and take effect on September 1, 2003. The implementation rules for the Regulations on Legal Aid currently applied to at least 25 provinces in China, Provisions of Jiangxi Province on the Implementation 
of Regulations of Legal Aid, for example, which makes the regulation on legal aid more practical in its area. In order to strengthen the work for legal aid, more regulations and rules were applied afterward such as Notice of the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Justice on Issuing the Provisions on the Work for Legal Aid in Civil Actions(by the Ministry of Justice, 2005 ) and the Procedural of Accepting Legal Aid Cases(by Ministry of Justice of China in 2012)
  According to the Regulation on Legal Aid the Chinese government is legally binding to provide free legal service to Chinese citizens with economic difficulties and cannot afford legal services. As legal aid is a governmental responsibility, it’s required to establish legal aid institutions to accept and examine legal aid applications and assign the lawyers to provide legal services to those applicants. The lawyer association is obliged to assist the legal aid institutions for providing of legal aid services.
  Any and all Chinese citizens that meet the requirements as provided in the present Regulation shall has the right to obtain free legal aid services, including legal consultation, agency, criminal defense, etc.
  The Chinese citizen may ask for free legal aid under the following circumstance:
a) Claim for State compensation; or
b) Claim for social insurance benefits or minimum subsistence 
allowances; or
c) Claim for pension for the disabled or for bereft family and 
relief; or
d) Claim for payment of maintenance for parents or grandparents, 
children, spouses, or any other dependents; or
e) 
Claim for payment of unpaid wages; or
f) Claim for civil rights and interests for reasons of doing boldly 
what is righteous; or
g) Claim for compensation for workplace injury, medical or 
traffic accidents; or
h) Claim for maintenance of legitimate rights and interests for 
reasons of suffering from home violence, abuse or abandonment; or 

i) Criminal defendant might be sentenced to death, or is a minor, or is blind, or is deaf, or incapable of speech.
